Offering 11: Storybeads : A POEM A DAY FOR NOVEMBER 2010

by on November 14, 2010

11th November

At the first intimate encounter

I am gifted a handful of story beads

Chiselled wood, sculpted shell

Sacred bone and gemstone

Each bead secure in its place

Assured of its singular beauty

All falling , sliding into harmony

Leather thread bringing them together

Holding this newfound treasure

Tenderly between my fingers

The storyteller smiles, asking me to choose

I breathe deeply letting my eyes decide

Lapis Lazuli leaps out and lures me in

Its azure coolness, filigree of dark cracks

Unlocks my imagination, my ears eager

To hear of its travels and origination

There is laughter and music in the telling

Where it begins or ends, I do not remember

Such intoxicating stories could go on forever

We move from wood to shell and bone

I find a piece of myself somehow hidden

In the frequency and sculpture of each one.
